Undersea Cable Malfunction Near Jeddah Affects Internet Services in Pakistan

Internet users across Pakistan may experience slower connectivity due to a technical issue with undersea internet cables near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, confirmed a spokesperson for the PTCL Group.

According to the spokesperson, the issue has partially affected the bandwidth of two major submarine cable systems — SMW4 and IMWE. These cables play a crucial role in international internet connectivity, and their malfunction has impacted regional data flow.

While the disruption is not severe, consumers may notice reduced internet quality during peak usage hours, especially in high-demand areas.

To mitigate the impact, local PTCL teams are actively managing alternative bandwidth routes, ensuring minimal inconvenience for users. PTCL has also assured customers that international partners are working on a priority basis to resolve the cable issue.

“We are grateful for the patience of our consumers,” the spokesperson added, reaffirming the company's commitment to uninterrupted digital services.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of global internet infrastructure and the importance of multiple redundancy routes for seamless connectivity.
